Decluttering my lipstick samples – Would I purchase the full size?

Hi everyone!

When the Urban Decay Vice lipsticks first launched I got a tonne of free samples to try out. The range has 120 shades in 6 finishes, and I only own the full size of one (the shade ‘714’). These are priced at £15.50 each and are cruelty free.

I want to disclose that unless I say otherwise in the mini reviews, I love the formula of these. The main distinction as to why I won’t purchase the full size of some of these is that some colours just don’t work on certain skin tones. However, I wanted to include swatches of all of them because you might just find your perfect shade.

Swatches and individual reviews:

This shade is called ‘Stark Naked’ and it is a warm nude in a comfort matte formula. I wouldn’t purchase the full size of this one because I don’t suit warm toned nudes at all as I am so pale. If you have more of a medium skin tone, this will definitely look good on you.

This shade is called ‘Rapture’ and it is a mauve pink in a cream formula. This is such a beautiful, classic cult shade. I will definitely purchase the full size of this. The cream formulas just glide on and the pigmentation is gorgeous.

This shade is called ‘Backtalk’ and it is in a comfort matte formula. This shade is similar to Rapture except it is a matte rather than a cream finish and is more of a cool toned purple with less pink in it. However, it is still really wearable and I will be picking up the full size. It seems like it is going to be perfect for the Autumn months.

I will be purchasing the full size of either this or Conspiracy (which is the darker version). This metallized medium brown is a unique lipstick that doesn’t feel gritty. Definitely a recommended shade.

This is ‘Manic’, this one is a cream formula and is more of a slightly reddish brown shade. I adore this, I think that this is so wearable and yet it adds a little something to your look. Will definitely be picking up this shade soon.

This is a bold deep red shade, in a cream formula, called ‘Rock Steady’. Definitely a shade I want to pick up. What’s your favourite type of red to wear?

This is a cream formula in ‘Gash’ and it is a pink based red (it is a bit darker than in the photo). Whilst the name of the shade may be off putting, the colour certainly isn’t. I don’t know whether I will purchase this or not, I don’t have a lot of opportunities to wear red. There are so many available in vice lipstick range that you are guaranteed to find your perfect red.

This is a cream formula named ‘Jilted’, it is a medium pink with a purple edge to it. For me this is a quite bold shade but I enjoyed trying it out. I may pick this up in the future if I want to purchase something a little outside my comfort zone.

This cream lipstick in the shade ‘Firebird’ is a hot pink with a purple reflect to it. I work in an office five days a week and bright pinks don’t really suit me, so I will not be picking this up.

This hot pink with a sheer formula is ‘Sheer Anarchy’. I love the sheer formula, it gives such a beautiful finish to the lips and it looks stunning during the summer. I just won’t be purchasing this because personally again I just won’t wear bright pink colours. If that is a colour that you really enjoy I would try this out, as I imagine that this would look stunning on holiday.

This comfort matte lipstick in ‘Pyscho’ is a beautiful hot pink shade. As with the other pinks, this one just isn’t for me.

This is the other metallized lipstick mentioned earlier. It has the same formula and reflect as Amulet except this is a deeper bronze. Personally I don’t think you need both in your collection, so save your money and choose one as they are extremely similar.

The final one is ‘Blackmail’. This is a comfort matte formula and this is the only one that I don’t like the formula on. It was a little patchy to apply, I don’t know whether that was because I had to apply it with a lip brush. However, even when I rubbed my lips together to blend the product it didn’t sit right. I would never wear this sort of black with a purple tint as it would make me look dead, so obviously its a no from me on purchasing it.

That is it, my full review on the lip samples that I had from the Urban Decay Vice lipstick collection. Overall, I love the vice lipstick range from Urban Decay. There are so many colours and finishes that your perfect shade is guaranteed to be discovered. What’s your favourite shade from the collection?

As I have decluttered all of these samples now these will add to the total number of empties for 2017. Making the total 112 items and £396.67! (no money added as these were free samples).

Until the next time,

April Empties (21 items!)

Hey everyone!

I could not believe that I used up 21 products this month! Alright most of them are samples but still. The post that will be coming up after this one is called “What I broke my no buy for”. Safe to say that it failed massively within days but I still think it was a good learning experience as not I single product was store bought. I just have no control when it comes to online sales aha. This should have made a little room for those products though.

Decluttered products:

Seventeen Stay Time Foundation in ‘soft ivory’ £6.49 ~ Back in the day I used to swear by this. Before brands started making lighter shades for us pale folk, this was the only foundation that would match me. It was the first full coverage foundation that I ever used, this is my second bottle of it as well but my skin has gotten a lot drier since then and this has a very thick consistency. If you have combination – oily skin and are looking for a super affordable, very full coverage foundation I recommend trying this out if you can find your shade. I just can’t wear this anymore so it had to go.

Nivea Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm £5.29 ~ This was hyped up by everyone, including myself, but I can’t use this anymore as my skin is too dry (sensing a theme yet). I think that if you have oily skin you will love this. However, stay away from it if you have dry skin as it will not do you any favours.

Revlon Shadowlink in ‘Melon’ £2.99 ~ This was a shadow from my 2017 project pan. I decided to declutter this shade as I made no progress with it and its very old. This was mentioned in my Project Pan update which if you haven’t seen that, it is the post before this one.

Biore Charcoal Pore Strips £9.49 ~ I don’t know where the box for this went but this month I finished another pack of these pore strips. Both my boyfriend and I use these, they are super effective and you can usually get these on sale at Superdrug so they will be cheaper than the price above.

Too Faced Better than Sex mascara mini in purple FREE ~ This came in the Too Faced x NikkieTutorials collab kit. Recently Jeffree Star mentioned on Snapchat that the contract Too Faced made Nikkie sign for this collection was awful, we will probably never know the details but I love Nikkie so I hope it wasn’t that bad. It does make me question whether I want to purchase Too Faced products, what with all the drama around the old owner of the brand as well. Anyways, I loved using this product on my bottom lashes when I had a purple shade smoked on my lower lash line. This is really old now so I have to throw it out but I did really enjoy this and it has made me consider purchasing the original better than sex mascara.

L’Oreal Preference high shine conditioner FREE ~ Now I may have fallen out with my hair dye but my relationship with this conditioner is still holding strong. It just keeps your colour looking good and your hair looking healthy and shiny.

AVON ANEW VITALE day cream sample FREE x2 ~ These were the last two of the samples that I had of this product. I don’t know how many of these samples I have used up and shown in my empties posts, but it must be at least 30. I am still of the opinion that it is just okay; it’s a basic moisturiser with SPF 25 which makes it good for day time. I will not be purchasing the full size as there are products I prefer in my collection.

Maybelline Colorsensational lipstick in 725 Tantalizing Taupe £6.99 ~ Some of you may have seen this in my project pan update but if you haven’t, this is the first product I have finished in my project pan 2017. This is the perfect nude shade for fair skin tones, its great to just throw on as it goes with every look and you don’t have to think about it. I will definitely repurchase this as it is, dare I say it, my favourite drugstore nude lipstick.

Lush Bubblegum lip scrub £5.75 ~ I am tired of trying to love sugar scrubs in a pot. Don’t get me wrong if you are looking for a harsher scrub for your lips to get every bit of dead skin off, then you will probably like this. This is just too harsh on my lips and it becomes uncomfortable, I don’t enjoy sticking my finger in a pot and getting it under my nails and this product in particular goes bad so quickly. Therefore since I am not fond of this form of product and it went off a while ago. It was time for it to leave my collection.

Beauty Blender solid £14.00 ~ Until I made this purchase I was washing my brushes and sponges with hand soap, which did the job but took the colour out of my beauty blender and made the tools smell a little funny. This product makes it so easy to get everything super clean and I don’t have to use as much as I would if I was using the soap. Even if you don’t own a beauty blender, I highly recommend purchasing this to clean your tools as it will save you a lot of time and they will look like new.

Beauty Blender (Original) £16.00 ~ This was the first beauty blender I ever purchased and I used it to death which is why it is in this post. I purchased a new one in the light pink shade which I adore, even though it is basically white with a pink tint now from washing it. It applies liquid and cream products to the face quickly and blends them out flawlessly. I believe that everyone has to at least try these, they are hyped up for a reason.

AVON Senses Joyful Tropics papaya and peach moisturising shower creme £1.00 ~ This is a shower creme that smells exactly like it says it will. This is summer in a bottle, super fruity and more papaya than peach I would say. I really enjoyed this and I will probably pick another bottle up at some point.

Tata Harper Repairative Moisturizer sample FREE ~ I really didn’t like this. The smell was awful and super strong, being a popular and very expensive moisturizer I thought that although I might hate the smell it will do wonders for my skin. Wrong. This product costs £94.00 and it did nothing for my skin. I certainly won’t be purchasing the full size of this.

Lancome Juicy Shaker in 400 ‘Mint to be’ £19.50 ~ This shade applies clear with a very slight blue tint and it makes your teeth look whiter. Essentially this shade is a clear lip oil and therefore is super expensive for what it is. If you are prepared to spend this amount on a lip oil then I say go for it because this is the most hydrating lip product I have ever used. I loved how soft this made my lips. I would apply this when I had been wearing liquid lipstick days in a row and after you would never have known. I just personally can’t bring myself to repurchase it for that price. Although if you wear very minimal makeup and prefer to spend more on skincare products, I think you would love this as a lip oil in your daily routine.

Goldfaden MD Wake up call overnight regenerative facial treatment sample FREE ~ This had a beautiful light citrus scent to it and sunk nicely into the skin. It is for dry and ageing skin and I do recommend you get a sample of this before purchasing as it is £75.00 for 50ml (Ouch!). I do think that if you have that type of skin and you have tried a sample and enjoy it, it could be worth it. I would wait till Space NK does a spend £60 and get £15 off offer (this is online and is done quite a lot) to save yourself some money. Although to be honest you guys its very difficult to give a solid review on skincare based on a sachet.

REN V-Cense Revitalising night cream sample FREE ~ This has a really strong scent as well, I know a lot of products in this post that I haven’t liked is because of this but I honestly don’t know why brands are putting products out with such strong botanical/almost medicinal scents to them. It was a pretty good night cream but this scent lingers and I can’t bear it so I won’t purchase it. I find most REN products have strong scents so I really recommend smelling the products in store before purchase any of them, especially cause they are expensive.

REN Flash Rinse 1 minute facial sample FREE ~ This had such a strong citrus/ fresh orange scent, that’s the first thing I remember about this product. I left my skin feeling good but other than that I didn’t notice enough of a difference for the £32.00 that this product costs. I feel that since the claims on the product are based around lines, fatigue etc you would have to use it over time to actually see a result.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge £5.99 ~ I will always repurchase this sponge, I think its a great alternative to the beauty blender if you don’t want to spend the cash on it. I am currently using the Eco tools sponges instead but I am sure there is room for another of these in my collection as well.

Head & Shoulders smooth and silky shampoo sample FREE ~ I love Head & Shoulders products I just find that my hair reacts really well to it. This shampoo made my hair so shiny and healthy looking that of course I am going to go and buy the full size. I am just going to wait until I have used up some more hair products that I own.

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre sample FREE ~ I have the full size of this already and I am obsessed with it. It’s super hydrating and a thicker cream consistency which I enjoy. I highly recommend this for those of you with dry or combination skin. Those with dry skin can wear this as a day or night cream where as I think combination skin people would just want to use this at night in my opinion.

That was the final product in my April empties, I know this was a long post but I had a lot of products to talk about this time. The totals are now 84 items with a retail value of £301.74 ! I am so happy that I am only 16 items away from 100 empties already! Will I make it to 100 empties next month…you’ll have to wait to find out.

Until the next time,

October Empties Part 1 (12 items)

Hey everyone,

I know I am behind a little on my blog posts but I have been so busy at work lately it is insane. Again, this post will be in two parts as I have a lot of empties to give reviews on. Unfortunately, this month I used up a lot items that were either okay or I didn’t like but I am glad that I have used up a lot of samples because the amount started to become overwhelming.

L’Oreal Preference high shine conditioner (FREE) – You would have seen this product in a lot of my empties posts throughout the year, as this is the conditioner that comes in my hair dye kit. It just leaves my hair so soft, it smells great and maintains my hair colour really well.

Carex Protect + Plus original refreshing hand gel (£1.00) – Since I commute to work 5 days a week hand sanitiser is a must, especially during the winter months. I always make sure to have a bottle in bag to help reduce the risk of me becoming ill. I believe this is an essential for any traveller.

Carex Complete refreshing soft cleansing wipes (£1.00) – These are another must for me. I have two uses for this product: to clean my acrylic storage and desk top and to wipe my hands if I can see visible dirt on them. I use the hand sanitiser generally on my hands but if I got some dirt on them from a railing or something I will use the wipes to remove it. I really like using it on my storage because it is quick and easy and removes a lot of the bacteria from the surfaces.

NYX eye/eyebrow pencil in 901 black (£2.95) – As you can see this isn’t an empties but I decluttered it from my collection because I have had it for over 2 years. I kept it for so long believing I had to have a black pencil eyeliner in my collection, but I just don’t use pencil eyeliners. If I want to put a colour in my water-line I will use a glimmerstick as it is far more creamy than a pencil eyeliner. So I won’t be repurchasing this product, not because it is a bad eyeliner but because I just don’t use that type of product.

Eos berry lip balm (£6.50) – I don’t know the exact name of this eos lip balm but I took a guess based off of the scent. I do like eos lip balms but I am not liking them as much as I used to when I started blogging. I think the uniqueness of it being a spherical lip balm clouded my judgement for a while. Whilst I do like them and the range of scents they have, I have just found better and more affordable alternatives. Therefore, I will not be repurchasing this product.

AVON ANEW VITALE day cream sample x6 (FREE) – Last month I managed to use up 8 of these samples and this month I used up 6, I am pretty proud of that. Can’t believe I still have more aha. My review is pretty much the same as last time, so if you want to look at my review of this product please refer to my September empties part 1.

Garnier Simply Essentials cleansing wipes for sensitive skin (£2.19) – I really don’t like these wipes at all. This product claims it “removes make-up without rubbing” which couldn’t be less true. The wipes have a rough texture and the product on them takes a while to remove your make-up. Overall, I don’t think that this is good for sensitive skin and I won’t be repurchasing as it was too much work to remove my make-up.

That completes the review section of this post, sorry it was a bit more negative than normal but I am not going to fake my views purely to create a positive post. The total number of items for 2016 so far is 146 and the total price is £582.96!

If you want to find out what those numbers are at the end of October, then you can in my October empties Part 2 coming very soon. Other posts to look out for are Kylie Cosmetics Review Part 2 – Lip kits and Kylie Cosmetics Review Part 3 – The Burgundy palette, just to name a few that are in progress.

I hope you all enjoyed this post and I will see you all next time.

September empties part 2 (7 items)

Hey guys, this is part two of my September empties. Sorry that this is so late but I have been super busy lately. I have just changed my background for my photos to a dark blue lace. What do you guys think?

NYX HD finishing powder 01 (£8.00) – I really liked this loose powder as it created such a lovely finish on the skin. However this product is quite messy so you really do have to be careful, otherwise when you screw the lid back on it powder will fly out the sides. I won’t be repurchasing this purely because I prefer the pressed version of this powder a little more.

Garnier Moisture Bomb moisturiser day sample (FREE) – This product surprised me a little, I didn’t expect to find it so hydrating. I am going to pick up the full size soon, hopefully this can be a new drugstore favourite.

Bioderma moisturising make-up removing micelle solution (£10.00) – Bioderma is my favourite micellar water that I have tried for sure. Although, I don’t see a massive difference between this and the regular Bioderma. Plus this does still have a fragrance to it so it isn’t perfect for super sensitive skin. Once I have used up the other bottle of this I have, I will be returning to the original Bioderma so as I can do a comparison of the two. This is a great product tho and if you haven’t tried Bioderma yet, I strongly recommend that you do.

Maybelline Brow drama sculpting brow mascara in dark brown (£4.99) – I really enjoyed this brow gel, it is a good colour match for my brows and it stayed on all day. However, the brush shape means that the end of it would sometimes apply product unevenly and to skin around the brows. Therefore, light pressure and  a little precision is required.

Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion + 30ml (£10.00) – I did like this moisturiser but for some reason it didn’t really wow me. There is no specific reason behind me not loving this product but for the price of a regular size being £30.00. I’m not going to repurchase it when I have others I prefer.

Benefit Cosmetics Porefessional primer 22ml and 7.5ml sample (£24.50 and FREE) – This is my favourite pore filling and smoothing primer. Since I have mentioned it in so many previous posts I will not be doing another review on it. I will definitely repurchase it soon.

That is it for this my September empties, making the total number of products used up this month 20. The running total for the 2016 empties is 134 items and £569.32!

September empties part 1 ( 13 items)

Hey guys it is that time again. I have been really M.I.A lately on WordPress and Instagram because I just started my new job last month and I just took my first accounting exam. Only fourteen more to go… So sorry about the lack of posts. At least now I have a little time to do what is my readers’ favourite type of post. Be prepared to see the definition of #SampleSeptember.

AVON Nutraeffects Refreshing gel cleanser (£2.00) – This cleanser is definitely aimed around simplifying your skincare and bringing it back to basics. It is soap free, paraben and dye free, allergy tested and suitable for sensitive skin. If you are looking for a cleanser with the sole purpose of cleansing your skin, without additional aims and ingredients then you should definitely give this a go.

P.S…Love this 100 oval cosmetic pads (90p) – As you all will know these are the only cotton pads that I purchase, as they are really cheap and have a wide surface area.

Benefit They’re Real mascara sample (FREE) – I have another sample of this mascara and a brand new full size that Benefit gave to me, so you can probably already guess what my opinion is going to be. This makes my lashes so long and separated that I totally understand the hype over it. However, the Rollerlash might be moving in on its territory. I really hated the Rollerlash to begin with honestly but now it is one of my most used mascaras. Which one is your favourite??

Body Shop British Rose fresh plumping mask sample (FREE) – This mask has a great floral scent, a jelly consistency and is transparent with a pink tinge. I was looking for this to hydrate my skin, since I didn’t require the plumping aspect, but it didn’t do much of anything to my skin. I really like Body shop products but this was a dud for me.

No7 Quick thinking wipes (£2.00) – These are the best wipes I have ever tried. Being as lazy as I am, makeup wipes are an essential for me and I have tried lots of brands. These remove all my makeup easily, the wipes are saturated and Boots does No7 vouchers which make the wipes really affordable. I will definitely be picking some up when I run out of this new pack I’m trying out.

AVON ANEW VITALE day cream samples (FREE) x8 – Yes you read that correctly, 8 of these samples. Shockingly I still have a lot more. I do enjoy this moisturiser as a day cream because it has SPF 25 and it is light but still moisturising enough. However, it has a scent that I cannot identify that is quite strong. I like the scent but I mention it for those of you that don’t like that in your skincare. Also, I don’t use it at night or when my skin is really dry because I required more hydration. Unfortunately, I do believe that AVON is discontinuing this product.

Part 2 of this months empties will be up shortly. With the items included above: the total number of items is 127 and these cost a total of £511.83! I hope you enjoyed part 1 of my September empties. Look out on my Instagram for photos and swatches from my Colourpop haul coming very soon.

June empties part 1 (8)

Hey guys,

I have lots of exciting empties this month as I have been trying out lots of new things and receiving lots of samples during my beauty hauls. I split this post into two parts because I know that these posts are usually really long and that puts some people off. This month I finished 15 products, so stay tuned for part 2 to see the other 7 items.

  1. YSL Black Opium eau de parfum sample (FREE) – I really love this scent as the perfume includes pink pepper, vanilla, jasmine and more. It has a very sexy and sweet scent to it which I love. I have one more sample of this luckily, once that and a few other perfumes have been used up I am going to have to purchase the full size. The 30ml retails for £47.00, the 50ml is £66.00 and the 90ml is £87.00.
  2. AVON super extend liquid eye liner in black (£3.50) – This eyeliner allows for quick and easy application and stays in place all day long. As soon as it started to dry out I repurchased it as I cannot be without it.
  3. Wilkinson sword Quattro for women sparkle disposables (£5.79) – I use these razors when my Venus one foams up too much because once the Venus one does this it stops being able to remove hairs. I also like these razors for under my arms as I feel it gives a closer shave. Safe to say I already have another pack.
  4. No 7 quick thinking wipes (42p) – This is the final pack that I managed to obtain with my discount. That didn’t stop me though; with a No 7 voucher I repurchased these wipes for £2 rather than £7. These wipes just do such a good job of removing even waterproof makeup. No complaints.

The middle ground:

  1. PS… love this 100 cotton pads (90p) – Not the most exciting empty but it does a good job and is very cheap.
  2. Soap and Glory One heck of a blot primer (£10.00) – I feel that this primer would have benefited someone with oily skin more than myself who has dry skin. I purchased this for the “pore-shrink technology” rather than the “shine-bloc” aspect. It didn’t do as good of a job as my two favourite primers in relation to my pores, so I will not be repurchasing.
  3. AVON makeup setting spray (£3.00) – I liked that the mist was very fine but I don’t think it actually extended the wear of my makeup. I purchased the newer variation of this product, which is the AVON Magix prime and set spray. I prefer the newer formula but I don’t like the spritzer on it.

  1. AVON nutraeffects hydration gel cream (£2.00) – Although this is supposed to be a hydration night cream I feel this product would be better suited to those with oily skin. I understand that this is a gel cream and it says light on the container but it really isn’t suited to those with dry skin as there is little to the hydration side of it.

Part 1 of this month’s empties brings the total items to 69 and a total of £320.43. Part 2 will be up very soon!
