September empties (15 items) !Updated!

Hey everyone,

I have been lagging behind with posts due to a law exam, which thankfully I passed, however I am now faced with a new dilemma. I just did another massive declutter of my makeup collection, including some of the items from my project pan that clearly expired, even though I have yet to get through even half of my previous declutter here on my blog. Not sure how to tackle this, so let me know if you have any ideas.

Empties:

MAC Fix + (£18.00): Fix + is a staple in many beauty addicts collections and I can’t disagree with the pros expressed by so many in the beauty community. It’s such a classic product and I am sad that I ran out of it. I have tried alternatives to intensify the pigment of certain shadows but nothing works quite like this. I will definitely be picking up another bottle soon.

Benefit cosmetics Roller Lash mascara (£20.50): This is a favourite mascara of mine and I am so sad that I have to go and repurchase this one. It is strange that I really didn’t like this product in the beginning but now I can’t imagine my collection without it.

AVON nature Apple Blossom shower gel (99p): This is the last bottle of this shower gel that I had and it has been discontinued, therefore I cannot repurchase it.

No7 Quick Thinking Wipes (£2.00): These are my favourite makeup wipes and any time I have a money off voucher I always repurchase these. They are gentle on the skin, remove all traces of makeup and I highly recommend them.

Avene Thermal Spring Water 150ml (£10.00): I got this originally to help with my eczema but it did nothing and I just ended up using it to cool down during the summer. Therefore, I see no point in purchasing this expensive water again.

Sephora Lotus face mask (£4.81): I picked this up during my trip to Rome, I picked up two other types to try out as well, and I did enjoy this one. However, I found the green tea version to be more effective at achieving what it said on the packet. Even though I have dry skin I did prefer the green tea one (for mattifying), I just expected for my skin to feel more hydrated than it did after using this one. Therefore, I wouldn’t pick this up again.

Rimmel London Volume Colourist mascara (FREE): This was a good mascara and I do feel that it did tint my lashes a little. However, it was a little too scratchy against my upper lash line to justify repurchasing it. It may seem very picky but there are other mascaras I like that don’t have an uncomfortable application.

Nivea Invisible for black & white antiperspirant (£1.29): I only got this to take with me travelling but I didn’t take it with me in the end because it really didn’t work for me. Deodorants are such a personal preference and I won’t be repurchasing this one.

L.A Girl Pro conceal in porcelain (£4.00): The concealer itself I really enjoy for the under eye area, as the shade gives a very natural look yet it covers all that I want. However the packaging is really annoying, especially when you are getting a bit low. It just becomes really difficult to dispense the product and the brush tip applicator becomes gross after a while. However, I enjoy the concealer and the price enough that I have already purchased another one.

Benefit cosmetics Boi ing brightening concealer no.1 sample (FREE): This shade works really well as an under eye corrector for me. I will definitely be picking up the full size of this as it requires me to use much less concealer afterwards.

AVON Advance Techniques Absolute Perfection conditioner (£3.99): This was just an okay product for me. I don’t have anything bad to say about it but it didn’t wow me either. Therefore, I won’t be picking this up again.

Tesco everyday value cotton wool pads (£1.00): You guys know I only ever use cotton pads that are not from Primark when my Primark ones run out and I can’t get my hands on them any time soon. Therefore, these were for convenience use only.

Biore deep cleansing pore strips Limited Edition (£8.99): These are no where near as good as the charcoal pore strips. The charcoal ones are the only ones from the Biore range that I recommend but I do recommend those ones highly. I will not be purchasing these ones again.

Gillette Venus & Olay 6 razor heads (£20.49): These are the current razors that I use. Not very exciting but these are the best ones I have used so far.

I completely forgot that I updated my decluttering by brand post 1, by adding content mentioning that I was decluttering my Stila mini liquid lipstick in Perla. This was supposed to be included in this post’s totals originally, so I have edited the figures below to include that item now. (1 item and £6.00)

That brings the total number of items to 159 with a retail value of £728.47!

Until the next time,

August empties (9 items)

Hey everyone,

I recently got back from a week long trip to Rome and I finished quite a few items whilst I was there. I posted photos of these and reviews on my Instagram: Charles Worthington Strength and repair shampoo and conditioner, Neutrogena make-up remover wipes, Tarte brighter days highlighting moisturiser, MAC Natural Radiance primer in yellow (sample), Benefit Porefessional primer (sample) and AVON moisturising sun lotion SPF 50. This brought my empties up to 135 items at £560.64. For more information please see my Instagram: @teenbeautylife

Garnier Micellar Cleansing water 700ml £7.99 – I got this super large size bottle when it was on sale and it has lasted me a long time. This isn’t my favourite product but I will probably repurchase it from an affordability perspective.

Lush Jackie Oates colour supplement £10.49 – This is being binned as it has expired. This product can either be used on its own or, the way I preferred to use it, mixed with moisturiser to make your own tinted moisturiser. It didn’t last well on the skin through out the day and your face just smells of oats. I will not be repurchasing this.

Beauty Blender solid cleanser £14.00 – This is the best brush cleaner I have ever used and I have already repurchased it. It leaves your brushes looking new again and it makes the cleaning process super quick.

Beauty Blender £16.00 – This product applies base makeup flawlessly and I will always repurchase it. This one was the light pink shade, which I will not repurchase as it lost all its colour within the first few washes and didn’t last as long as the original dark pink one. Currently I am using the white and pink marble beauty blender that was launched recently, and I am really enjoying it.

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre £13.00 – This is a super thick cream moisturiser that is amazing for my dry skin. Therefore, I am going to purchase the big size of it when I am next at Boots.

Sephora Green Tea face mask FREE – My best friend bought this for me when she went on her trip across Europe and I really enjoyed it. The sheet fits the face well and doesn’t move around once in place. There is plenty of serum in the sachet and it leaves the skin mattified without feeling stripped. I purchased another one of these when I went to Rome recently.

Benefit Air Patrol BB cream eyelid primer sample FREE – I am definitely going to purchase the full size of this product. It cancelled out all discolouration on my eyelids, keep my shadow on all day and my shadows didn’t crease either. The applicator on the full size means you can apply it directly to your lids as well as being gentle on the skin. If you are looking for a new lid primer, especially one that has colour to it, I highly recommend air patrol by Benefit.

Benefit Firm it up! eye serum sample FREE – This tightened the under eye area, not in an uncomfortable way, and hydrated them which made concealer application easier. If you are looking for an eye serum I would definitely check this one out; ask for a sample at the counter.

Tarte Rainforest of the sea marine boosting mist 30ml £4.29 – This didn’t do much of anything for my skin and therefore I will not be purchasing the full size. You apply this product before your moisturiser and it is supposed to increase your skin’s hydration. However, I saw no difference to before it was included in my routine.

This brings the empties total to 144 items and £626.41!

Until the next time,

Project Pan Update #3

Hey everyone,

Recently I posted my project pan update #2 where I showed my progress, new products I am adding to my project pan and products that were leaving it.

This update is going to show the starting points for the new products mentioned in the previous post, give an update on the remaining products and I am going to add a few more previously unmentioned items in too.

Remaining products from the original project:

The MAC eyeshadow in Vanilla is remaining in my project pan and the latest progress photo is later on in this post.

Sleek contour kit in light – I have decided to declutter this from my collection as it is very old and appears to be making my acne worse as a result. The picture below shows the final progress made on the product before it was binned.

LA Girl Pro Concealer in Porcelain – I am declaring this product finished. I could possibly squeeze a little more out but it is becoming more and more difficult to do so. Therefore the photo below shows the ending point of the progress on the concealer.

MAC lipglass in Oxblood – This product is remaining in my project pan and the latest progress photo is later on in this post.

New products mentioned in update #2 and additional products:

Lorac eyeshadow primer – The photo above shows the starting point for this product. The reasons that this product has been added to my project pan are that the packaging is terrible, it means that you can never dispense the right amount making it very wasteful and the product itself is not accessible in the UK.

My reasoning behind adding the Colourpop super shock shadow in Glow was mentioned in update #2, in depth, so I will not repeat that here. The above photo shows the starting point for this product.

The two shadows, Sweet Lust and Jest from MAC, are also added to the project because I rarely use pink/pink toned shadows anymore.

This was the first MAC blush I ever owned and therefore it is quite old and needs to be finished. This is the MAC mineralized blush in the shade Dainty.

The Colourpop matte liquid lipstick in Times Square and NYX matte lipstick in Natural are now being added to this project. The Colourpop item was from my first order to the brand and I never use the NYX lipstick, so I decided these need to be used up.

Finally I decided to add a palette to the project as I have never done a pan that palette challenge before. This is the Alice through the looking glass palette by Urban Decay. It is really bulky, is difficult to store, not all the shades are of the same standard expected from the brand and it contains a lot of colours which I don’t get a lot of opportunities to use. Therefore I am looking forward to keeping track of my progress.

This brings the empties total for 2017 to 135 items, with a retail value of £560.64.

Until the next time,

Project Pan Update #2

Hey everyone,

This is the second update for my 2017 Project Pan. The products added to the project pan mentioned in this post will have their own post showing the start points and explaining the reasons why I am panning them.

Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in ‘Cricket’:

The Laura Mercier product was in an empties posts so the only product left from this original photo is the Colourpop shadow in ‘Cricket’.

I am having really difficulty using this shadow as during the summer it isn’t really a shade I would use. Therefore, I am going to remove it from my project pan and reintroduce it in the late Autumn/ Winter.

I have decided to replace this with the Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in ‘Glow’. This is a matte cream shade that I personally use to carve under my brows with, because it makes them look cleaner but it is more on the natural side. I find that applying this all over the lid doesn’t work well for me, it just clings to dry patches and almost cracks (even though I moisturise every morning). Therefore, I am looking forward to using this one up. I understand that at $5 this is a very affordable product but I don’t feel that you need to purchase this shade in comparison to all the other beautiful ones Colourpop has. I got this one in the Kathleenlights In the Light quad with my first ever Colourpop order, but I wouldn’t repurchase this shade.

Sleek Contour Kit in ‘Light’ and LA Girl Pro. Conceal Concealer in ‘Porcelain’:

Both of these products are going to remain in my 2017 project pan.

I have done really well on the concealer as evident in the comparison photos above. It is really difficult to tell when I am going to finish this, but it has become more and more difficult to get the product out.

I have decided that I am going to throw out the Sleek Contour Kit in Light once I have hit pan on the contour shade, as it is a very old product. I would repurchase this as I think that it is good quality for the price but I just don’t need it in my collection at the moment. I am hoping to have hit pan on it by the next update in a few months.

MAC Toledo Collection Lipglass in ‘Oxblood’ and Stila Stay all day liquid lipstick in ‘Perla’:

The Maybelline lipstick was in an empties post, so only two products from the original photo remain.

The Stila liquid lipstick mini in the shade ‘Perla’ looks as though no progress has been made but I swear I have used this a lot. I think it is time to give this shade a break for a while and pick it up again in the winter, since it does have more of that mauve edge to it.

The MAC Toledo collection lipglass in ‘Oxblood’ is showing a little progress. I do really enjoy this shade it is just on the older side so this is going to continue to be in my project pan for the remainder of the year.

To replace the Maybelline lipstick and the Stila liquid lipstick I am adding to my project pan the Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in ‘Times Square’ and the NYX Matte lipstick in ‘Natural’.

MAC Eyeshadow in ‘Vanilla’ and REVLON Shadowlink in ‘Sand’:

8fb5134d-1862-42a2-9f12-40b90718291d

The orangey Revlon shade was decluttered in my last Project Pan update, leaving the two remaining shadows.

I have decided to declutter the Revlon ‘Sand’ shade as it is very old and I tried to apply it the other day but it has been reduced to slightly coloured glitter.

The MAC eyeshadow in ‘Vanilla’ will remain in my project pan as it is easy to incorporate into looks. I will not repurchase this once finishing it as I don’t see why anyone should spend £10 on a cream single eyeshadow.

I am going to add the MAC eyeshadows in ‘Jest’ and ‘Sweet Lust’ to bring it back up to three powder shadows again.

I am going to do a post very soon with photos of the starting points for the newly added items.

Until the next time,

Lauren x

Project Pan Update 1

I bet you all thought I had forgotten about this post. Well it has finally arrived; my first update on the project pan items I selected at the beginning of the year. I started 2017 by choosing 10 products that I wanted to finish/hit pan on and in conjunction with my empties and decluttering posts and my current no buy (which failed 8 days in), I truly believe that this year is going to result in a much more organised and manageable makeup collection.

Lets start with the three single powder eyeshadows.

As you can see I have made quite good progress in this area. The first thing you will have noticed between the before and after photo is that I have hit pan on MAC Vanilla. This took so long. I never realised how much product you get in a MAC eyeshadow. My aim by the next update is to have used most of it, if not all of it, up. As it is a basic whitish bone shade I feel it is an essential eyeshadow but I don’t believe that you need to spend £10 on this shade.

When I started my 2017 project pan, the Revlon Shadowlink in Sand was already showing pan. This has expanded quite a bit, which I am super happy about. I generally use this shade as an inner corner highlight or all over the lid. I love these light champagne shades its just that this one is really old and the glitter is a little chunky for my current tastes. This is one that I am hoping to finish up by next time.

Disappointingly, I have made no progress on the Revlon Shadowlink in Melon. As it is so old and I haven’t even used it in the past 4 months, I am going to declutter this eyeshadow. I don’t like to declutter products that are this unused but I have had it for so long and I just don’t envision myself using it in the future.

I am loving using the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser in Cameo, as the coverage is perfect for everyday wear. I have no doubt that I will repurchase this but I think next time I will try another shade as it is a little pink for my taste. By the next update I am pretty sure this will be used up. The Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Cricket, is another story. A little progress can be seen, however I am finding it extremely difficult to get use out of this shade since it isn’t exactly office appropriate. Nevertheless I love the product so I don’t mind it sitting in my collection a while longer.

The only real progress that has been made with these is the Maybelline Colorsensational lipstick in 725 Tantalizing Taupe, that has been officially used up. This was one of my favourite drugstore lipsticks which I have no doubt I will repurchase. The other two products don’t appear to have changed much, but I am hoping by the next update that things will be different. Although I highly doubt that there will be another finished lip product by the next update, one can always hope.

Something I have discovered over the past couple of months is that the LA Girl Pro Conceal is never ending. I used this for a period of time everyday and there is no difference. The Sleek contour kit in light is doing well; I still couldn’t hit pan on the contour side. You can see the dip in it but I have no idea how long it will take to use it up.

That is it. I hope you enjoyed this post. Please follow my blog and Instagram if you haven’t already. I am going to be doing monthly updates from now on if you want to see what progress I make on these items. I haven’t decided yet when I am going to add items to my project pan or what those will be or how many, so please stay tuned for that.

The decluttered shadow and the used up lipstick means that there are only 8 products in my project pan now. These two items will be mentioned more in depth in my April empties which will be posted in the first week of May.

Until the next time,

Lauren x

Declutter #2 (MAC, Colourpop, Benefit and more)

Hey guys!

This was yet another attempt to reduce the clutter in my collection, not that it made much of a dent. My last declutter was focused on mascaras and eyeliners, where as this is a group of more random products.

The thing that started this off was decluttering inside my Z palette. My zebra print Z palette contains all my depotted products that I am trying to finish/ get more use out of and my MAC pigments that I pressed myself. Below is a picture of before and after I decluttered and there is a big difference. The only difference between now and the after picture is that I put my two single Revlon shadows from my project pan in there as well.

The only products that I will be counting in my empties items/pricing are the MAC eyeshadows and the Revlon eyeshadow, the rest won’t be. The two MAC eye shadows I am decluttering are “Da Bling” because I never wear that shade of pink on my eyes anymore, and “Retrospeck” as it has a greenish undertone that I can’t pull off. MAC eyeshadows in the pro pan form are £10 each.

The other two random shadows from the palette I am getting rid of are one from House of Colour (the light pink one) as I already have shades like this I prefer; and the Revlon Shadowlink in dark brown (£2.99) as it is super old and doesn’t get used.

The 4 other shadows are all from a Collection eyeshadow palette that retailed for £3.99 total and I depotted the shadows a while ago (that’s why I am not including the 4 in the total). I decided to keep my two favourite shades from the palette and declutter the rest. It was an okay neutral palette but some of the shades weren’t very pigmented and nothing drew me to it.

The final thing I decluttered from my Z palette was the Benefit blush in ‘Coralista’. This shade of blush generally doesn’t suit me and it is very similar to Milani Luminoso. Therefore I didn’t need this as well. All the depotted Benefit cheek products are from a set I got for Christmas, the packaging was just too bulky and I get more use out of it now its in a Z palette.

Lacoste touch of pink body lotion 100ml (FREE) ~ I got this in a set with the perfume and the body lotion is just far too strong for me. It actually smells stronger than the perfume itself. For that reason it was just sitting in my draw, so it was time to declutter that.

Urban Decay Nirvana empty palette (£8.50) ~I only have two urban decay eyeshadows and the packaging on the spine was giving out a bit. Safe the say I wasn’t impressed with the palette. The two eyeshadows that were in the palette I placed into my large black Z palette.

IMG_0663

MaxFactor Green CC stick (£9.99) ~ I don’t have time on an everyday basis to colour correct. Since this is only one colour, I will be decluttering it because when I do colour correct I have a kit by Sleek that I love to use instead.

PS…Angled Brow brush (£1.00) ~ This brush just got so gross from being used everyday. The spoolie on the end is now bent and the brush just isn’t up to it anymore. I have two on back up cause I love this brush so much. I use it for my brow pomades and it just applies the product so precisely. The spoolie also means that it is the only brush that I have to use to complete my brows.

MAC lipsticks:

  • Viva Glam V (£15.50)
  • Viva Glam VI (£15.50)
  • Fabby (£15.50)
  • Sweet and Sour (£15.50)
  • Real Redhead (£15.50) (LE)

When I was looking at my MAC lipsticks I decided to go through and check that they all still smelt good and that they didn’t have mould on them. Which seems to be more common in MAC lipsticks for some reason. I have never had this issue until now but the two Viva Glam lipsticks and the Limited edition one did have mould on them near the base. The other two I decluttered because Fabby was really old and I never used it as it had quite a frosty finish. The second one, Sweet and Sour, only had a little product left in it and since I only use it in the summer time there was no point keeping it till then. All of these will go back to MAC at some point (3 already have).

AVON loose pigments in “brown” and “pink” (£3.50 each) ~ The pink shade was far too iridescent for my taste in eye looks and even for highlighting my cheek bones. The packaging doesn’t have a sieve either, it just has a whole in the middle which means you have to tip it into the lid and then try and put the remainder back. Due to this I never use the brown one as it isn’t worth the hassle for a regular brown shade.

Halved my pigment collection

Colourpop Super Shock shadow in “Kathleenlights” $5 (£4.01 approx) ~ This shadow I gave to my best friend as the colour really doesn’t suit me. Its a stunning eyeshadow with a smooth formula so I didn’t want to waste it. So I had to pass it along to my friend as I love Colourpop Super Shock shadows so much and I knew she would too.

Colourpop ultra satin lip in ‘Littletitous’ $6 (£4.79 approx) ~ This looks like a beautiful pinky nude in the tube but as it dries on your lips it becomes a brighter, and brighter pink. I got my mum to try it and it happened to her too (not as much as me but similar). The results can be seen below. The picture isn’t that great but you can see that her lips are darker than the tube, it looks as though she lined her lips with a dark pink lip pencil as well (she didn’t, that is the shade getting darker still!).

Benefit dew the hoola mini (FREE) ~ This came in a magazine quite a while ago and I was so excited for it. I don’t like to give super negative reviews but this was terrible. It was completely orange and didn’t last long on the skin. I definitely wouldn’t pay the money for the full size.

Benefit Benetint mini (FREE) ~ I have the full size of this product and I just don’t use it enough to justify having two. Therefore, I thought it best to just declutter the mini of it.

That’s it for this declutter post, I hope you guys enjoyed it. I know I haven’t done a project pan update but to be honest there is only one product I have made visible progress on. I will also not be doing a February, March or April beauty haul as I just don’t have the time at the moment. Those post will be back in May though. Don’t worry about the empties posts though, these will continue as normal.

The empties items are now up to 53. Bringing the retail value up to £175.90!

Until the next time,

Lauren x

Mac Toledo Collection

my purchases

my purchases

This collection included 3 blush ombres, 6 lipsticks, 6 lipglasses, a makeup bag, a brush, 3 nail varnishes, 3 eye shadow palettes, 3 eyeliners and 3 mascaras.

Packaging:

Blush Ombres

Blush Ombres

Blush ombres

Blush ombres

Lipglasses

Lipglass

This has great artistic packaging which really portrays the nature of this collection. The blush ombres have magnetic closing which I really like. It feels safer to have it on this product because after all you don’t want a limited edition blush to smash.

Price:

The blush ombres were £25 each and the Lipglass was £17. I didn’t feel to bad paying that price because M.A.Cs dazzleglasses are £17.50 and they are part of the permanent collection. Also, the mineralize blushes, which are permanent as well are only £4 cheaper at £21.

Product:

Lipglass in oxblood

Lipglass in oxblood

I purchased the Lipglass in the shade Oxblood. (This is still in stock). I really wanted the Oxblood lipstick to go with it but it sold out within minutes on the Debenhams site. This Lipglass applies smoothly and lasts for hours. I love this shade I can see myself using this up so quickly.

imageLeft: Azalea Blossom, Right: Ripe Peach

I believe that M.A.C did a collection last year that included blush ombres. So of course I knew they would be really popular. So I purchased Azalea Blossom and Ripe Peach. They both look gorgeous. However, I wasn’t originally very happy with them due to the film over the top of the product. Anyone who has purchased these will know what I am talking about. There is a layer over the top of both blushes that results in poor pigmentation. It originally gave me no colour pay off and I was very disappointed. Once the film is broken though the shades of these blushes are beautiful.
