May empties (15 items!)

Hey everyone,

Anyone who works in the Finance industry knows that this time of year is chaos. I have been spending four hours a day on a train and the result has been a big decline in blog/ Instagram posts. As well as a zombified Lauren staggering around, looking for the nearest can of Red Bull to drain.

Now that I am based back in Belgravia and the weather has finally picked up, you can count on a lot more blog posts coming soon. Within the next two weeks there should be about 3 posts going up. Some of the ones that are currently in the works are: decluttering my makeup collection by brand, a review on the ILUVSARAHIIxColourpop collection, a project pan update, Kylie lip kit collection review (finally) and more!

Empties:

L’Oreal Preference Color Extender FREE ~ I may have a love hate relationship with the hair dye but my opinion is clear on this product. This really extends the wear of your colour and just revives it. It leaves my hair feeling amazing and it is really quick to use.

L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay Re-balancing shampoo 400ml £4.49 ~ This is a great shampoo with a drugstore price tag. I will be repurchasing this for sure. It gets rid of all the oil from your scalp without stripping your hair, it doesn’t dry out the lengths of your hair and it keeps your hair looking good in between washes.

L’Oreal Hydra Genius Aloe Water sample FREE ~ This is aimed at normal to combination skin and I think this would be a great product for those of you with that skin types. However, if you have dry skin like me I would give it a miss as it doesn’t do anything special for our skin type. The formula is a more gel consistency that is lightweight which is typical for products aimed at those skin types. This is a recent release which is now in stores at Boots and Superdrug in the UK.

L’oreal Fine Flowers cleansing wipes (normal to combination skin) £2.65 ~ These did remove my makeup well and didn’t stingy my skin. However, as I have dry skin, these did dry me out a little. It probably has something to do with the very strong floral scent to these. If you are sensitive to that I would avoid but if you aren’t and have the skin type these are aimed at I would try them out.

PS…Love this oval cosmetic pads 90p x2 ~ It wouldn’t be an empties post without these bad boys. These are a necessity in my collection to apply skincare and remove makeup. I will never not repurchase these.

Garnier Ultimate Blends Honey Treasures 1 minute treatment £3.99 ~ This smells amazing which was the first thing that drew me to this line. The fact that it is only a one minute treatment for someone like me who likes to be in and out of the shower quickly. Considering how long the product is on your hair for, it really does condition your hair and the scent clings to the hair nicely. Would definitely recommend picking this up.

Caudalie VINE [ACTIV] Glow Activating Anti-Wrinkle Serum sample FREE ~ This is such a beautiful glowly serum that really brightens up the appearance of your skin. Obviously I am not going to purchase the full size as I don’t need an anti-wrinkle serum but I would definitely check this one out in store if you are looking for one. It gives a nice amount of hydration to the skin and leaves it soft. However, it is an expensive brand so I recommend trying a sample for yourself.

Laura Mercier Oil free tinted moisturiser in ‘cameo’ £34.00 ~ This was one of the product in my project pan 2017, which now means that I have finished 3 of the 10 items in that project! This was in my project pan because this shade was very pink toned for me. I did really enjoy using it but I will be checking for other shades when I go to repurchase it.

Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done hybrid complexion perfector in ‘light’ £28.00 ~ I loved everything about this product, from the formula to the coverage and wear time. However I had to use the Body Shop lightening drops every time I wore this product because the shade range is terrible and this was so dark on me, even though it was the lightest shade. It is a real shame because I really love the product but I won’t be repurchasing. Although, as you can see I did use every drop of product in this as the pump makes it so easy to use it all up. I wish more brands would have this packaging considering the price you pay for it, you want to be able to use it all up.

Kat Von D Lock it foundation sample in ‘light 44’ FREE ~ This is an incredibly full coverage foundation that lasts all day. I really love the formula of this product but I am unsure on the shade for my skin. Some days this would be a perfect shade for me an others it would be too dark. However, because I am so into the formula I will try to find my shade again next time I go to the Kat Von D counter at Debenhams.

Benefit They’re Real mascara FREE ~ This is in my empties because it has dried out and it had started to flake when I wore it on my lashes. I got this free at a Benefit Cosmetics and Marie Claire event last year, and I do really enjoy this product. However, I prefer the Roller lash mascara so I won’t be repurchasing this mascara.

Benefit Ready, Set, Brow! mini FREE ~ This is an amazing brow gel, it just strikes the perfect balance between light formula and strong hold. I will be picking up a full size very soon. I prefer to use this on more natural brow days as there isn’t as much product to keep in place so I don’t need an intense hold. My only complaint with this product is the packaging. Yes it looks super cute, but sometimes it is very difficult to open because of the divots in the lid.

AVON True Colour glimmerstick liquid eyeliner pen £3.50 ~ I think that this is a really good drugstore priced eyeliner. It is pigmented, it lasts all day and there are other shades available. I have been through so many of these so I think I am going to try out some new eyeliners for a while but I do suggest looking into this if you’re on a budget.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear brow gel £16.50 ~ There is no product left in this tube for me to use. I love this brow gel. It sets your brows like concrete, they won’t move all day long. It does smell incredibly strong but that doesn’t linger after it has been applied. I personally don’t mind this but some people do so I thought I would mention that it can get a little solid on your brows. If you don’t like to feel like you’re wearing product on your brow this isn’t for you but I really love this product and will be repurchasing it soon.

That is it for my May empties, I hope you enjoyed it. This brings the total items up to 99, and the retail value to £396.67!

‘What products did you use up in the month of May?’

October Empties Part 1 (12 items)

Hey everyone,

I know I am behind a little on my blog posts but I have been so busy at work lately it is insane. Again, this post will be in two parts as I have a lot of empties to give reviews on. Unfortunately, this month I used up a lot items that were either okay or I didn’t like but I am glad that I have used up a lot of samples because the amount started to become overwhelming.

img_4265

L’Oreal Preference high shine conditioner (FREE) – You would have seen this product in a lot of my empties posts throughout the year, as this is the conditioner that comes in my hair dye kit. It just leaves my hair so soft, it smells great and maintains my hair colour really well.

Carex Protect + Plus original refreshing hand gel (£1.00) – Since I commute to work 5 days a week hand sanitiser is a must, especially during the winter months. I always make sure to have a bottle in bag to help reduce the risk of me becoming ill. I believe this is an essential for any traveller.

Carex Complete refreshing soft cleansing wipes (£1.00) – These are another must for me. I have two uses for this product: to clean my acrylic storage and desk top and to wipe my hands if I can see visible dirt on them. I use the hand sanitiser generally on my hands but if I got some dirt on them from a railing or something I will use the wipes to remove it. I really like using it on my storage because it is quick and easy and removes a lot of the bacteria from the surfaces.

NYX eye/eyebrow pencil in 901 black (£2.95) – As you can see this isn’t an empties but I decluttered it from my collection because I have had it for over 2 years. I kept it for so long believing I had to have a black pencil eyeliner in my collection, but I just don’t use pencil eyeliners. If I want to put a colour in my water-line I will use a glimmerstick as it is far more creamy than a pencil eyeliner. So I won’t be repurchasing this product, not because it is a bad eyeliner but because I just don’t use that type of product.

Eos berry lip balm (£6.50) – I don’t know the exact name of this eos lip balm but I took a guess based off of the scent. I do like eos lip balms but I am not liking them as much as I used to when I started blogging. I think the uniqueness of it being a spherical lip balm clouded my judgement for a while. Whilst I do like them and the range of scents they have, I have just found better and more affordable alternatives. Therefore, I will not be repurchasing this product.

AVON ANEW VITALE day cream sample x6 (FREE) – Last month I managed to use up 8 of these samples and this month I used up 6, I am pretty proud of that. Can’t believe I still have more aha. My review is pretty much the same as last time, so if you want to look at my review of this product please refer to my September empties part 1.

IMG_4259.JPG

Garnier Simply Essentials cleansing wipes for sensitive skin (£2.19) – I really don’t like these wipes at all. This product claims it “removes make-up without rubbing” which couldn’t be less true. The wipes have a rough texture and the product on them takes a while to remove your make-up. Overall, I don’t think that this is good for sensitive skin and I won’t be repurchasing as it was too much work to remove my make-up.

That completes the review section of this post, sorry it was a bit more negative than normal but I am not going to fake my views purely to create a positive post. The total number of items for 2016 so far is 146 and the total price is £582.96!

If you want to find out what those numbers are at the end of October, then you can in my October empties Part 2 coming very soon. Other posts to look out for are Kylie Cosmetics Review Part 2 – Lip kits and Kylie Cosmetics Review Part 3 – The Burgundy palette, just to name a few that are in progress.

I hope you all enjoyed this post and I will see you all next time.

August empties part 2 (12 items)

Hey guys,

Part 1 of this month’s empties brought me over 1oo empties. My next project pan goal is to reach 150 empties.

Also, I start my full time apprenticeship tomorrow so I don’t know when certain posts will be coming out. I was thinking maybe doing two months worth of products at once, like a October & November empties post. Let me know in the comments whether you would like that or whether you prefer these posts monthly.

Hits:

IMG_3791

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge (£5.99) – This had to go because I could no longer get all the dirt out of it and the sponge’s pores became very large. Saying that I have repurchased it as I prefer to use this sponge under my eyes rather than my beauty blender because of the flat oval edge.

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipstick sample in Red Carpet Red (FREE) – This is the final Charlotte Tilbury lipstick sample that I had. As I mentioned before in a empties post, I love this colour and formula. If I didn’t already have so many red lip products I would probably purchase the full size.

Seventeen Falsifeye HD! mascara in blackest black (£6.99) – I really enjoyed this mascara as it both lengthened and separated my lashes. What I mainly look for in a mascara is length rather than volume and this mascara gave me some of the longest lashes I have ever achieved. It is one of my favourite drugstore mascaras and I will repurchase after I have tried out some others that I have in mind.

L’oreal Recital Preference hair dye in refined brown (£6.00) – I have gone back to dying my hair for the winter and this product turns my hair such a lovely cooled toned brown. I have never had a problem with this product so I really recommend it.

AVON Anew lip plumping conditioner (£9.00) – I would apply this to my lips before bed to ensure that when I woke up my lips were nice and hydrated. It filled in the natural lines on my lips which made it great to apply before liquid lipstick since those are typically quite drying products. Next time I need a lip treatment it will be a strong contender.

AVON Care Intensive relief lip treatment (£1.10) – This lip balm was really basic everyday product in terms of being scentless and having basic packaging. However, this was more hydrating than expected. Whilst I won’t repurchase this product it is in my hits because if you like basic scentless lip balms, that are affordable I would recommend this to you to try out.

The middle ground:

IMG_3790

AVON Clearskin blackhead clearing daily astringent (£2.50) – I used this as a toner after cleansing (not sure if that is what you are supposed to do but oh well). This is in the middle ground because I cannot say for sure that this cleared my blackheads, but I haven’t had very many during using this product. Therefore, I probably won’t repurchase as I couldn’t see prominent results.

TRESemme Beauty-Full Volume pre-wash conditioner sample x2 (FREE) and TRESemme Beauty-Full Volume shampoo sample x2 (FREE) – I got these four samples from two different magazines, ELLE and Marie Claire. It has the regular TRESemme hair product scent and my hair was in good condition after using it. I liked the concept of a reverse system but truthfully I didn’t experience an increased amount of volume in my hair. I don’t know whether it was because I have really thick hair or not but I won’t be purchasing the full sizes.

KIKO Milano cleansing pure clean make up removing wipes (£1.70) – I have a makeup wipe obsession so I have tried many different brands. I can safely say these are the worst makeup wipes I have ever tried. These burned my eyes and dried them out. It took quite a while to actually take my eye makeup off. I highly DON’T recommend these.

That concludes the August empties making a total of 20 products used in August. Bringing the overall empties total to 114 and the total empties worth to £506.93!

April empties part 2 (12)

Hey everyone, if you haven’t viewed part 1 of this months empties then go ahead and it view it. This part is focused on make up, hair care and skin care.

Superdrug 100 round pads (£1.00), L’oreal Preference hair dye in natural dark brown (£6.99) and L’oreal Preference high shine conditioner (comes with hair dye): I am mentioning all three of these in one because they have all been in past blog posts a lot, so I will not be reviewing them again.

IMG_2816

NYC smooth skin bronzer in Sunny (£3.99). This was the final item in my project pan! In the photo you can see the small bit of pan. It had to go it was so old and orange on my fair skin so you can probably guess my opinion on repurchasing. However, this is a cult favourite for many so it really depends on your skin tone and undertone.

Makeup Revolution pressed powder in translucent (£2.00).  I had high hopes for this after I purchased their blush palette but I guess you get what you pay for. All the writing on the packaging rubbed off within weeks, it contains one of those cheap foam round sponges that I hate and the product itself made my skin look super powdery and I needed to touch up after 2 hours. The only good thing I have to say about it is that I like the concept of the mirror on the bottom.

AVON Planet Spa Perfectly Purifying face mask (£3.00). This mask did absorb all the oil on my face but it didn’t get the dirt out of my pores as I wanted it to. So I want to try a mask that gets rid of dirt in pores and blackheads, anyone got any recommendations???

YESto grapefruit facial wipes (£3.99). I love the scent of these wipes and it takes my make up off really well but I just can’t buy them again. I had the exact same problem as the cucumber ones, they burnt my eyes. So far I have only been okay with the carrot ones. I don’t know if I should bother trying the coconut ones, what do you think??

AVON Luxe lip gloss in elegant gold (£4.50). The reason that this is in my empties post is because it has very obviously expired (smells like glue) and is in my project pan lips edition. I never used this because it had big chunks of glitter in it and was a clear gloss. It is currently being discontinued by AVON and I can’t say I will miss it.

MAC Dazzleglass in Sugarrimmed (£17.50). Back when I purchased this I mentioned on Instagram that the formula of this wasn’t very sticky…scratch what I said…its super sticky. As the product has gotten older it has gotten sticker and sticker. As the product begins to fade off your lips the glitter clumps together. Since this one was made in 2013 it has long ago expired. I won’t purchase any dazzleglass ever again.

Una Brennan Super Facialist micellar water 200ml (£6.99). I saw Alessandra Steinherr talk about this on Snapchat and instantly wanted to try it out. This product is really good for removing my face make up but I have the same issues as the Yesto wipes with it. I can’t use it on my eye area as it is too sensitive for it. So unfortunately I won’t repurchase.

Smashbox photo finish oil free primer sample (£5.00). This is a nice primer I just don’t believe it is the right one for me. I am desperate to try out the pore minimising one thought.

Indeed labs Hydraluron moisture jelly (£24.99). This product is talked about so much on Instagram and YouTube. Although I really don’t know why. This did improve my skin a little whilst I was using. However, not enough for the price tag. Maybe the results would of been different with the serum version I don’t know. Do you guys prefer that one??

That is the last post on empties this month, making a total of 22 items! Please let me know what kind of posts you want to see in the future.

March empties (12)

IMG_2713 (1)

This month I managed to finish 12 items and make a lot of progress on other items. I have already finished another 2 items so far this month. I have a feeling that April is going to be a really good month for empties 🙂

Something I would like to mention about all of the products put in my empties posts is that unless otherwise mentioned I scrape every last bit of product out I can of every product. I spend a lot of money on new products to review but I don’t hoard make up or waste it either. Also, every lip product that is mentioned I use every bit of it right down into the plastic inside. Once it reaches the plastic bit I usually depot it into a plastic pot and use a lip brush.

Avon Care cocoa butter hand cream: This was a really big tube of hand cream for me to finish. Especially since I now know I don’t like the scent of cocoa butter. With this said it was really moisturising, so I am going to try out other Avon hand creams.

O.P.I Nail Envy nail strengthener 3.75ml:  I love this nail strengthener so much. My nails do not break once I have applied this and they grow so long. I had half of this bottle left but sadly due to age it became solid and could no longer be used. I will definitely repurchase the full size though.

Sure women Maximum Protection deodorant: When I purchased this it was so expensive for a deodorant and to my shock it didn’t work for me at all. Stupidly I still used the whole item since it was pricey. It just made you smell like a mixture of sweat and berries. I definitely will not be repurchasing.

No7 Quick thinking wipes: This product was in my January empties post but this isn’t the second pack I have gotten through. I have used up at least three packs of these bad boys since I discovered them late last year. I wouldn’t say they are my holy grail make up wipes but I do really like them.

Superdrug cotton wool 100 round pads: Not very exciting and I finished a pack of these before as shown in my last month’s empties post.

Maybelline Babylips in intense care: This is my second finished Babylips of the year, first one was shown in my January empties post, and this one has definitely been my favourite. It is really hydrating and doesn’t really have a scent which was my issue with the last one. I would repurchase but I have so many other lip balms that there is no point.

L’oreal Preference high shine conditioner: Again I am sure I have mentioned this product before on my blog. I love this conditioner a lot, it keeps my hair and colour in good condition and leaves my hair feeling so soft.

Benefit they’re real! push-up liner sample size: This came in the real cheeky party palette and I was really excited to try out this product because I have such difficulty applying eye liner. However, I really disliked this product and I would never pay the £18.50 price tag for it. The product itself came out in clumps on my eyelid, and yes before you guys say it I did the test on the back of my hand thing before applying each time. It flaked off through out the day and yet was impossible to get off. I couldn’t find any benefits to this product.

MAC select cover up in NW15: This was the first product I had ever bought at MAC and my first piece of highend make up ever. This was also a product in my main project pan. I used to use this underneath my eye area because I found it wasn’t full enough coverage for blemishes. However, I found that even for my under eye area it wasn’t the coverage that I wanted so I won’t be repurchasing.

Avon perfectly matte lipstick sample in posh petal: I got this sample from Avon’s newest lipstick range that claims to be more matte than MAC. The formula was very creamy and stayed on a long time, even through drinking. For the price, I say that these lipsticks are really good. Unfortunately, the colour was just too light pink for me and I haven’t been able to find another colour in the range that suits me. Also, since I love MAC matte lipsticks, I can say that they aren’t more matte than MAC. Sorry Avon but its the truth MAC matte lipsticks have a more matte finish. This being said if you don’t like the MAC ones because they are too drying for you, I recommend you try the AVON ones because they don’t dry out your lips.

Listerine cavity guard mouthwash 500ml: I really liked this mouthwash as I believe that it does what it says on the bottle. I have lots of problems with my current fillings and this mouthwash has so far kept them for eroding and being sensitive. I will definitely repurchase this.

Listerine stay white mouthwash 95ml: I saved the worst till last. I bought this because I get natural staining on my teeth and I needed a travel size for my Valentines day stay in London. Thinking this would be great because of the product mentioned above, I tried it. The picture below shows the point at which I had to stop and pour it down the drain. This burnt my gums and hurt my mouth every time I used it. I couldn’t use it for the length of time needed to clean my teeth with it. I was horrified by this product and I will never go near it again.

Seventeen Wow! skin 3 way Highlighter vs L’oreal Lumi Magique primer

I’m finally back after so long. Hopefully, I should be posting more often from now on. I have been using both these products for a long time now; so I thought this post was long overdue.

Firstly, the Seventeen 3 way Highlighter. The bottle says that this product can be used “to prime, add to your foundation or apply onto cheek bones to lift, lighten and wake up your skin with a luminous glow”. This highlighter is a cream colour with shimmer.

Vs

The Lumi Magique pure light primer. The bottle says it can be used “alone or under foundation to enhance radiance, or dab onto cheeks and brow bones as a highlighter”. This primer is white that gives a glow without the shimmer.

Seventeen highlighter on the left and L'Oreal lumi primer on the right.

Seventeen highlighter on the left and L’Oreal lumi primer on the right.

Comparison:

Both products claim to be able to be used in the same three ways. The Seventeen product comes in a 30ml container, where as the L’Oreal product is only 20ml. Both bottles are plastic and have a pump. The Seventeen highlighter is £5.99 at Boots and the L’Oreal primer is £9.99 at Boots and £9.99 at Superdrug. So you get less of the L’Oreal product and it is £4 more expensive. On application, I prefer the L’Oreal Lumi primer as a base for my foundation and the Seventeen as a natural looking highlight for my cheek bones. The Seventeen highlighter is better for light to medium skin tones due the shimmer and base colour.

Which one do you prefer?

August Favourites (sorry it is late)

I only have a few favourites from August, due to the fact I have only recently been shopping.

Triple active day mosturiser, Revlon lip butters and Mac fix + spray

Triple active day mosturiser, Revlon lip butters and Mac fix + spray

The L’Oreal triple active day mosturiser is one I have not strayed from since I picked it at random from the shelves. It hydrates the skin due to its deeply moisturising qualities. I have dry and sensitive skin which is exactly the skin type this product is targeted towards.

The next two are Revlon lip butters in Juicy papaya and Pink Lemonade. These have it all. Moisturising properties and lasting colour. These are £7.99 from places such as Boots and Superdrug. So these products are worth far more than there price.

Finally, the MAC Fix + spray is a product I cannot live without. This multi-purpose product sets your makeup keeping it on all day. Plus, if applied to your eye shadow brush, it can make eye shadow more pigmented so you can use less of the product from the same effect.

Until the next time
